The Office of Fleet Management ensures that the Alachua County fleet is obtained, maintained and utilized in a manner that provides for a safe and cost-efficient operation through environmentally responsible management.

Fleet Management is funded by  charging for all services and goods provided to its customers. All rates are approved by the Board of County Commissioners and based on break-even (zero-profit) funding. Support services are provided for approximately 835 (Eight hundred thirty five) vehicles and other equipment owned and operated by Alachua County. Additional vehicles and equipment owned by other governmental agencies and Constitutional Officers, receive services on an as-requested basis.

Functions

  • Manages the procurement of all County vehicles to ensure cost effectiveness
  • Maintains a fleet replacement schedule to minimize ownership costs
  • Provides specifications for vehicle procurement in a manner which maximizes vehicle utilization
  • Provides a quality preventative maintenance program and schedule to ensure reduced operating costs
  • Provides a quality Vehicle and Equipment Repair Service
  • Provides efficient equipment utilization through reduction of equipment downtime
  • Provides Fire Equipment Pump Test services
  • Participates in Fire/Rescue and A.S.E. certification programs
  • Provides preventative maintenance, repair and fueling services on job site
  • Manages County fuel purchase and usage
  • Manages shop and parts inventory
  • Manages Vehicle Replacement Fund
  • Manages Internal Service Fund
  • Manages and maintains titles and tags for all Fleet Vehicles
  • Manages vehicle and fleet equipment disposal
