Updating County's Comprehensive Plan

Alachua County is in the process of updating the Alachua County Comprehensive Plan based on the recommendations of the Evaluation and Appraisal Report (EAR) approved by the Board of County Commissioners in August, 2009. The Comprehensive Plan provides a long-term vision for guiding growth in the County, and focuses on sustainability through promotion of social equity, economic opportunity and protection of natural resources.

The EAR contains recommendations relating to urban development, land use and transportation, community facilities and services, economic development, agriculture and greenspace, resource protection and housing, including recommendations for two new elements: Energy and Community Health. The Florida Department of Community Affairs recently determined that the County's EAR meets state requirements, and the County has 18 months to adopt updates to the Plan based on the EAR.
