OPUS Counseling is an outpatient counseling center that provides substance abuse treatment and mental health counseling services to the residents of Alachua County who are justice-involved or uninsured. OPUS Counseling is licensed by the Florida Department of Children and Families and accredited through the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). OPUS Counseling also provides other services including Anger Management classes, Parenting Classes in collaboration with Partnership for Strong Families, and other topic-specific groups.

Population Served
Adult (18+) men and women with substance abuse issues, mental health issues, or co-occurring disorders appropriate for the outpatient level of care. If you live in Alachua County and have one of these treatment needs you can be referred for treatment (see referrals below). Depending on availability there may be a wait-list for some services. Many clients are supervised by one of the Alachua County Treatment Court diversion programs, Alachua County Probation, or Alachua County Pretrial/Day Reporting.​

Residents can be referred for treatment by any Alachua County Community Support Services program. Individuals can refer themselves by submitting the attached Referral form below. County program referrals are given priority, but individuals can refer themselves as well. Once a completed form ​​is submitted and received, staff strive to follow up within 3 days.

Screening

All potential clients must be screened and evaluated for appropriateness for outpatient services. If it is determined that outpatient counseling is not the best option, OPUS Counseling staff will work with the resident to access the most appropriate level of care. The appointment for the screening may be made directly by the applicant or through the referral source/agency.​

OPUS Counseling is in the same building as the Alachua County Health Department. Once you have an appointment and are expected, go into the front entrance where the bus stop is and look for the lobby behind glass doors on the left. Enter that lobby and ask the attendant behind the glass for the counselor you have an appointment with.
