November Commercial Horticulture Programs

beesThe UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Commercial Horticulture Programs for November 2019. These programs are being offered by Dr. Tatiana Sanchez, Commercial Horticulture Agent, at the UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office (2800 N.E. 39th Avenue, Gainesville) unless otherwise indicated.

Pesticide Training for Private Applicator & Ag Row Crops – A Review – November 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (with Dr. Kevin Korus, Agriculture & Natural Resources Agent)

This workshop is designed to provide training for the private applicator agricultural pest control license. The private applicator license is required for anyone that applies restricted use pesticides to their own farm, greenhouse or nursery. CEU's will be available. If taking the exam for Private Applicator or Ag Row Pest Control immediately after the training, participants must apply in advance online and bring the voucher number.

The registration fee is $20.00 (includes lunch and materials). Participants must register online (those needing assistance with registering can call the Extension Office at 352-955-2402) by October 28. There is a $10 late fee after October 28, or at the door. There are no refunds for the registration fee.

Beginner Beekeeping – November 2, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Honey Bee Research and Extension Lab (UF Entomology & Nematology Department, 1881 Natural Area Drive, Gainesville)

This class is designed for beginner and intermediate beekeepers. This is the first of a series of workshops that will help participants manage the needs of the hive throughout the year. After the smoker demonstration, clothes may have absorbed the smell (plan accordingly).

The registration fee is $25.00 (includes lunch and materials). Participants must register online (those needing assistance with registering can call the Extension Office at 352-955-2402) by October 30. There are no refunds for the registration fee.

Limited Commercial Landscape Maintenance – November 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Limited Commercial Landscape Maintenance Workshop trains commercial landscape maintenance personnel to make correct pesticide applications to ornamentals and plant beds only. Attendance to the full day is required before sitting for the licenses exam. Those sitting for the exam should apply online, and click on pest control, limited licenses. Applicants can pay online and then will be given a voucher number. Bring the printed receipt and voucher number the day of the class to take the exam.

Up to six (6) CEUs will be available in the following categories: 3 General Standard/Core (Chapters 482 and 487), 3 Ornamental & Turf, 3 Limited Lawn & Ornamental, 3 Limited Landscape Maintenance, 3 Commercial Lawn & Ornamental.

The registration fee is $30.00 (includes lunch and materials). Participants must register online (those needing assistance with registering can call the Extension Office at 352-955-2402) by November 1. Those seeking recertification may attend the class for four hours (if registered online). There is a $10 late fee after November 1, or at the door. There are no refunds for the registration fee.
