The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Agriculture & Natural Resources programs for July 2023. These programs are offered by Dr. Kevin Korus, Agriculture & Natural Resources Agent.
Right-of-Way Pesticide Safety Education Course – July 11, from 8 a.m. to noon (exams starting at 1 p.m.), at the UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office (22712 W. Newberry Road, Newberry)
This class helps prepare attendees to take the necessary exams to obtain this license. It provides Continuing Education Units (C.E.U.s) to those holding an active Right-of-Way pesticide applicators license. Class topics include General Standard Core, types of pests, application techniques, equipment, pesticide labels, and herbicide calculations. The course material is conducted from 8 a.m. until noon, followed by a lunch break (lunch is on your own) from noon to 1 p.m., and exams starting at 1 p.m.
Continuing Education Units (C.E.U.s) are offered in the following categories: two General Standard Core and two Right-of-Way.
The registration fee is $25.00, and participants must
register online by July 7. The class is limited to 10 participants. There are no refunds for the registration fee.
Regional Corn Field Day 2023 – July 18, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the UF/IFAS NFREC – Suwanee Valley Farm (8202 County Road 417, Live Oak)
The field day trials include grain corn variety, nitrogen rate recommendation, row spacing, phosphorus fertilization, and view plots in the Corn Stakeholder Engagement Program (S.T.E.P.) Competition.
Continuing Education Units (C.E.U.s) are available (optional Core training will begin at 1 p.m.).
There is no registration fee to attend (lunch will be provided), but participants must
register online by July 17.
