Free Neutering Services for Male Dogs Weighing 40 or More Pounds

County logoAlachua County Animal Services will provide free neutering services for male dogs weighing 40 or more pounds in an effort to reduce the number of dog bites in the community. This service is only available to dogs belonging to Alachua County residents. Studies have shown that while large breed dogs do not necessarily bite with more frequency, they often cause the most damage. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, studies also indicate, “Intact males [unneutered] are involved in 70-76% of reported dog bite incidents.”

They will be offering this program on the third Thursday of each month, excluding County-observed holidays, beginning on May 16, 2019. Dogs must be dropped off at Animal Services (3400 N.E. 53rd Avenue, Gainesville) between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., and picked up from that same location between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. that afternoon. The program is available by appointment only, on a first-come, first served basis. To set an appointment, call 352-264-6870 option 5.
