December Commercial Horticulture Program

The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Commercial Horticulture program for December 2023. This program is being offered by Dr. Tatiana Sanchez-Jones, Commercial Horticulture Agent.

Beekeeping Series: Beginner Beekeeping – December 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the UF/IFAS Honey Bee Research and Extension Laboratory (1881 Natural Area Drive, Gainesville, FL 32611)

This class is designed for beginner and intermediate beekeepers and is the first of a series of workshops that will help you manage the needs of the hive throughout the year. In this class, the focus will be on honey bee biology, equipment, and hive inspection.
After the smoker demonstration, your clothes may have absorbed the smell so plan accordingly and dress in protective clothing (closed toe shoes, long sleeves, or bring your beekeeping suit if you own one).

The registration fee of $30.00 (plus $3.85 Eventbrite fee) will include materials and lunch. Participants must register online by December 6th. A late fee of $10.00 (plus $4.25 Eventbrite fee) will be applied after December 6th, or if paying at the door. This class is limited to 30 participants. There will be no refund for the registration fee.
