Alachua County Fire Rescue is hosting a launch presentation on Wednesday, November 27, 2019, at 9 a.m. at the Red Cross Headquarters (1425 N.W. 6th Street, Gainesville). They will make presentations and answer public questions. The presentations will be followed by an onsite home visit and demonstration installation of smoke detectors.

With this partnership, anyone who needs smoke detectors in their home can stop by any fire station in Alachua County to request a smoke detector. Once a request has been made, within a week, a representative from one of the partnering departments or the Red Cross will set an appointment to come out to install the detectors. Detectors can also be requested by sending an email to smokealarm@alachuacounty.us.

The American Red Cross Home Fire Campaign started in 2014. In the five years since, the Red Cross and its partners have installed almost 2 million smoke detectors in over 800,000 homes. There have been 642 confirmed lives saved thanks to the installation of these smoke detectors.
