August Family and Consumer Sciences Programs

The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Family and Consumer Sciences programs for August 2022. These programs are being offered by Martha B. Maddox, Family & Consumer Sciences Agent.

Basic Food Preservation - Freezing and Canning – August 15, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. This is a Zoom webinar.
In this class, you will learn the basics of preserving food safely with freezing (providing freezer tips and guidelines), water bath canning, and pressure canning. 

The registration fee is $15.00. Participants must register online by August 12. Participants will receive a detailed canning and freezing guideline booklet. After participants have registered through Eventbrite, they will receive an email confirmation containing information about joining the Zoom webinar (they must register through Zoom to attend the workshop). The class is limited to 50 participants. There will be no refunds for the registration fee.

Cooking for One or Two – August 16, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and repeated from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. This is a Zoom webinar. This same workshop will be conducted at two different times.

In this class, participants learn how to adjust cooking skills when they are cooking for one or two. Class topics will include how to plan, freeze meals, simplify meals, creative ways to use leftovers, alter recipes, keep food safe, and learn to use the MyPlate guidelines for healthy delicious eating.

The registration fee for both sessions will be $15.00. Participants must register online by August 12. After participants register through Eventbrite, they will receive an email confirmation containing information about joining the Zoom webinar (they must register through Zoom to attend the workshops). Classes are limited to 50 participants. There are no refunds for the registration fee.

Basic 101: Cooking Under Pressure – August 22, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and repeated from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. This is a Zoom webinar.

Class topics include learning different pressure cooker models, appliance features, safety tips, additional equipment participants can purchase, and tricks to make cooking a breeze. This same workshop will be conducted at two different times. 

The registration fee for both sessions will be $15.00. Participants must register online by August 18. After participants register through Eventbrite, they will receive an email confirmation containing information about joining the Zoom webinar (they must register through Zoom to attend the workshops). Classes are limited to 50 participants. There are no refunds for the registration fee.
