Commissioner Long to Receive NAACP Award

ALACHUA COUNTY - The NAACP Freedom Fund Awards and Banquet event will take place on Sunday November 5, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. at the Savannah Grande Reception Hall located at 301 N. Main Street Gainesville. 
 
At the event, Alachua County Commissioner Rodney J. Long will receive the Reverend Dr. Thomas A. Wright Award.  This is the most prestigious award bestowed by the local NAACP chapter.
 
NAACP Board member Evelyn Foxx said, "The chapter’s executive committee voted to give the award to Commissioner Long for his outstanding citizenship and for going above and beyond the call of duty in serving both African Americans and all of the citizens of Alachua County."  Fox continued saying, "Commissioner Long's efforts on behalf of the MLK Commission, Plan East Gainesville, poverty reduction, and many other issues make him a deserving recipient of this award."
