County Commissioners to consider changes to the Animal Ordinances at meeting in January

The Alachua County Board of County Commissioners is considering changes to the Alachua County Animal code of ordinances (Chapter 72).

Changes being considered are:

  1. Prohibiting anyone from owning, harboring, or maintaining a dog declared to be dangerous (F.S. 767.11 and Ord 72.16) within Alachua County,
  2. strengthening the county code of ordinances relative to aggressive dogs,
  3. permitting the sale of Alachua County Animal licenses by licensed veterinarians, and
  4. defining approved animal welfare organizations as (501(c)(3) organizations providing for animal welfare.

These considerations will come to the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners during a January 2006 commission meeting. If you need additional information please contact Alachua County Animal Services at 352-264-6870.
