8-29-23 11 a.m. Hurricane Idalia Update- Shelter in Hawthorne

​In addition to the three shelters open in Alachua County, Putnam County is opening a pet-friendly shelter at Ochwilla Elementary School (299 State Road 21, Hawthorne) at 5 p.m. today. This is the closest shelter for Hawthorne residents.

Please consider evacuation if you don’t feel safe. We have an Evacuation Order for those who live in mobile or manufactured homes, or if you live in flood-prone areas.  If you have flooded during previous storms, you need to evacuate.
