Alachua County is proud to share that it has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) at Tuesday’s County Commission meeting.
The organization recognizes governments that prepare budget documents in the highest quality for the benefit of citizens, documents that not only serve as financial plans but also effectively communicate priorities, build trust, and promote accountability within the community.
The award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting and marks the 41st consecutive year Alachua County has received the award.
“That kind of consistency does not come easily; It does not happen by chance,” said Dallas Lee, vice president of the local GFOA chapter. “It reflects the professionalism and commitment of many individuals, including Assistant County Manager Tommy Crosby, Budget Manager Maureen Rischitelli, and the entire budget management team. It also reflects the leadership of the County Commission and county management staff.”
In addition to the award, the county received special recognition from the GFOA for its long-range financial operating plan and strategic goals.
Special recognitions are awarded when all reviewers provide the highest possible score in a category.
“The budget is the most important aspect of what we do,” said County Commission Chairman Ken Cornell. “This recognition reflects the hard work and dedication of our Office of Management and Budget staff, as well as the Clerk of the Court staff, who ensure every taxpayer dollar is managed with transparency, accountability and efficiency.”
