November and December Family and Consumer Sciences Programs

The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Family and Consumer Sciences programs for November & December 2021. These programs are being offered by Martha B. Maddox, County Extension Agent IV.

Cinnamon for the Holidays – November 30, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 pm, at the Alachua County Ag Auditorium (22712 W Newberry Road, Newberry)

Participants learn how to use cinnamon in a variety of ways. There will be a hands-on demonstration regarding breadmaking and a lecture on learning how to reduce sugar in recipes, too.

Participants receive a booklet full of breadmaking tips (learning how to use one recipe for several items), reducing sugar, cottage foods information, freezing, and food safety tips.

The registration fee is $15.00. Participants must register online by November 18. This class is limited to 20 participants. There are no refunds for the registration fee.  

COVID-19 Precautions: Masks and social distancing are highly recommended.

Holiday Gift Ideas – December 2, from 10 a.m. to noon repeated from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Alachua County Ag Auditorium (22712 W Newberry Road, Newberry)

Participants learn to make a variety of items to use in gift baskets for holiday gift giving. There will be hands-on activities and lectures combined. Participants can make a variety of gift items from personal to food that you can take home.

Participants will receive a booklet full of holiday gift ideas, instructions, and the cost to make each item versus buying it.

The registration fee is $20.00. Participants must register online by November 18. This class is limited to 30 participants. There will be no refunds for the registration fee.

Holiday Herbs with Dinner in Minutes – December 6, from 10 a.m. to noon and repeated from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Alachua County Ag Auditorium (22712 W Newberry Road, Newberry)

Participants learn how to reduce cooking time in half by using the electric pressure cooker to prepare holiday meals. In addition, they learn how to use herbs and spices to reduce sodium in the diet along with holiday decorating ideas.

The registration fee is $20.00. Participants must register online by November 24. This class is limited to 30 participants. There will be no refunds for the registration fee.
