Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Crash Course Series: The Important Wildlife in Our Landscapes – May 4, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Program is a series of nine landscaping principles to help protect Florida’s natural resources. In this education series, participants learn in-depth topics related to the Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Program’s nine principles. After the series, participants will be a champion of a beautiful landscape that can protect water resources, protect important insects, attract wildlife, and more.
This series highlights different topics each quarter. The second program in the series covers tips and tricks for attracting wildlife and pollinators to landscapes. Subsequent classes include “Watering in the Landscape” (August 3) and “From the Ground Up” (November 2).

Selecting Plants for the Perfect Summer Landscape – May 11, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. This program is conducted by a Master Gardener volunteer.
Following the Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Program’s first principle “Right Plant, Right Place” is very important when planning the ideal summer landscape. Join Master Gardener Volunteers as they talk about the unique flowering perennials, trees, and shrubs that can help make summer landscapes pop with unique color and attract important pollinators.

Warm Season Vegetables – May 19, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. This program is conducted by a Master Gardener volunteer.
Participants learn what vegetables can grow in the heat. Other summer strategies, such as soil solarization and cover cropping, will be covered.

Introduction to the Alachua County Master Gardener Volunteer Program – May 21, from 10 a.m.to 11:30 a.m.
The Florida Master Gardener Volunteer Program is a volunteer-driven program that benefits UF/IFAS Extension and the citizens of Florida. The program relies on dedicated volunteers who have an interest in gardening and in giving back to their communities.
The Florida Master Gardener Volunteer Program recruits individuals who are interested in gardening and enjoy sharing what they learn with others. Participants complete a 50-hour (or longer) training course sponsored by the University of Florida and the local county Extension office.
Certified Master Gardener Volunteers work through their county Extension office to educate Floridians and provide research-based information about gardening—America's most popular pastime. Master Gardener Volunteers can fulfill their volunteer hours in a variety of ways, including:
- Answering horticultural questions over the phone, in person, e-mail at the help desk or through a tabling event
- Participating in community and school garden projects
- Giving educational programs to the public
- Supporting youth activities
- Certifying Florida-Friendly yards through the Florida Yards & Neighborhoods Program
The 2020 training will run from September 10 through October 16, meeting on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
