The Alachua County Environmental Protection Advisory Committee (EPAC) is hosting a panel discussion called, “Talking Trash.” The discussion will focus on whether the County should consider banning and/or charging a fee for single-use plastic shopping bags and polystyrene foam (Styrofoam) containers. The discussion is scheduled for Thursday, June 28, 2018, at 6 p.m., at the Senior Recreation Center (5701 N.W. 34th Blvd, Gainesville). The panelists for this discussion include Matthew Williams, Adrian Hayes-Santos, Tim Townsend, Joel Islam, and Daniel Penniman. Nina Bhattacharyya will moderate the event. The event is free and open to the public.
Panelists will summarize their thoughts on the subject and address questions about the use of single-use plastic bags and polystyrene foam containers. EPAC members will develop strategies for the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners based in part from input they receive from this discussion.
Citizens are encouraged to attend the meeting and can participate by submitting questions in advance to sgreco@alachuacounty.us.
EPAC provides an opportunity for citizen involvement on environmental issues and concerns affecting residents of the County. It advises the Board of County Commissioners on appropriate measures to safeguard air and water resources and on responsible management of public lands and resources.
