Alachua County Forever Volunteer

The Alachua County Forever Volunteer Program allows volunteers to get hands-on experience maintaining and improving preserves. While assisting our knowledgeable staff, volunteers play a critical role in enhancing the natural beauty, habitat, and visitor experience in the preserves.

Eligibility Requirements
  • All ages are welcome
  • Have reliable transportation
  • Clothing comfortable for outdoors and walking 
  • Sunscreen, water, hat, long pants, and closed-toed shoes are advised
Volunteer Opportunities
  • Site Monitors

Volunteers assist staff by monitoring preserves and documenting visitor usage, wildlife sightings, vandalism, trash, looting, hazardous situations, and management or maintenance needs, in addition to filling brochure boxes.

  • Special Project Volunteers

Volunteers work independently with staff assistance and direction. Projects include building bird boxes, benches, or bridges, pulling exotic plants, helping develop interpretive signage or materials, conducting research, or monitoring flora and fauna. This position may be eligible for internship credit or Eagle Scout Projects, if applicable.​

  • Volunteer Workdays​

Groups of volunteers come together to help with a specific staff-led event. Events can include exotic plant control, planting vegetation, trail building/repairs, or trash clean-ups. Volunteer workdays for particular groups may be requested.
