​The Arts Council of Alachua County is inviting artists, artist collaborators, and non-profit organizations to apply for an art grant. The maximum awards range from $3,000 for individual artists and $5,000 for every city in the county except Gainesville.

Alachua County kicks off annual fertilizer ban

​F​rom Wednesday until February 28, landscape fertilizers containing nitrogen or phosphorus may not be used. This is because the fertilizers can wash onto stormwater systems, lakes and the aquifer.

'Hot Sword Summer' competition brings historical sword fighters to Alachua County

​One-hundred-twenty sword fighters from across Florida and Georgia competed at the Society of Historical Fencing’s third annual Hot Sword Summer. The tournament, held at the Alachua County Sports and Events Center for the first time, featured Historical European Martial Arts, where fighters use historical literature to understand how weapons were used and replicate those forms in their fights.
