The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Family and Consumer Sciences programs for February/March 2020. These programs are being offered by Martha B. Maddox, Family & Consumer Sciences Extension Agent IV, at the UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office (2800 N.E. 39th Ave., Gainesville).
Basic 101 Cooking Under Pressure – February 19, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Participants learn to reduce cooking time by 80% with electric pressure cookers while reducing sodium. This hands-on class covers different pressure cooker models, appliance features, safety tips, optional equipment, and cooking tricks.
Participants will complete and taste different recipes from an electric pressure cooker. Participants will also receive a Basic 101 Cooking Under Pressure booklet with information and recipes.
The registration fee is $15.00. Participants must

Freezing Food Preservation Workshop – February 25, from 9:30 a.m. to noon
Participants learn step-by-step how to freeze and preserve fresh fruits and vegetables. Workshop topics include basic freezing steps, preparing items to freeze, and how to make freezer jam.
The registration fee is $15.00. Participants must

Florida Master Money Mentor Training – February 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Florida Master Money Mentor (FMMM) program is a coordinated referral network designed to match mentors trained in increasing financial knowledge and promoting positive financial practices with people needing these skills. Participants in the program receive one-on-one assistance in developing spending plans, organizing financial records, understanding credit, and planning for the future.
The registration fee is $50.00. Participants must
register online (those needing assistance with registering can call the Extension Office at 352-955-2402) by February 14. There are no refunds for the registration fee.

Pressure Cooker Meals for Two – March 4, 1 to 3:30 p.m.
Participants learn to prepare meals for two in an electric pressure cooker, reduce cooking time by 80%, how to reduce sodium in diets, and money saving tips. Participants also receive a booklet with recipes for two and tips and tricks for pressure cooking.
The registration fee is $15.00. Participants must
register online (those needing assistance with registering can call the Extension Office at 352-955-2402) by February 26. There are no refunds for the registration fee.
