March Agriculture and Natural Resources Programs

The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Agriculture & Natural Resources Programs for March 2018. These programs are being offered by Dr. Kevin Korus, Agriculture & Natural Resources Agent, at the UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office (2800 N.E. 39th Avenue, Gainesville).

Review for Private Applicator and Ag Row Crop Licenses – March 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (with Dr. Tatiana Sanchez, Commercial Horticulture Agent)

This workshop is designed to provide training for the private applicator agricultural pest control license. The private applicator license is required for anyone that applies restricted use pesticides to their own farm, greenhouse or nursery. Topics include private applicator and regulations, equipment calibration and pesticide arithmetic, pesticide safety, and principles of pest control.

Up to four Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be offered for applicators that already have their licenses. Those who plan on taking an exam at this workshop will need to obtain a voucher number through the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services website.

Registration cost is $18.00 until March 5 (includes lunch). Late registration online or at the door is $20.00. Participants can register online. There are no refunds for registration costs.

Core & Natural Areas Weed Management – March 23, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Some of the topics for this class will include discussion of herbicide modes of action, herbicide additives, herbicide chemistries and weed biology, plant identification of the common weeds found in natural areas in Florida, pesticide movement through drift, leaching, runoff, worker safety, review of calculations and weight/volume conversions, and how to read an herbicide label.

The following CEU's will be available: 2 Core and 2 Natural Areas Weed Management.

The registration fee is $30.00 (includes study guide/materials & lunch). Participants must register online (with a $3.72 fee) before March 21. There are no refunds for registration costs.
