November Environmental Horticulture Programs

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Environmental Horticulture Programs for November 2016. These programs are being offered by Dr. Denise DeBusk, Environmental & Community Horticulture Agent, at the UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office (2800 N.E. 39 Avenue, Gainesville) unless otherwise indicated.

Preparing Your Garden for Winter – November 1, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

From ornamentals to vegetables, this workshop teaches what can be done in the fall to prepare for the winter. Topics will include what to plant, prune, irrigate, and fertilize, as well as how to properly protect sensitive plants and edibles from the cold. The workshop is presented by a Master Gardener.

Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Tours – November 5, from 8:30 a.m. to noon

Alachua County Master Gardeners will be offering a tour of Florida-Friendly Landscapes in the Rosemont and Apple Tree area. These yards exemplify water conservation and environmental friendly landscaping practices. Tour begins at the Rosemont Clubhouse (6200 N.W. 35 Terrace, Gainesville) where participants will receive a tour map. Parking is limited. Carpooling/walking/cycling is recommended.

Wildflowers and Seed Balls – November 7, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

This workshop provides information on what wildflowers are, how to create a wildflower meadow, and how to save seeds. Participants will have the opportunity to shuck out seeds, take home various wildflower seeds, and make seed balls to disperse in disturbed areas.

Pruning Your Trees & Shrubs – November 9, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
This workshop covers the timing of pruning, pruning styles, and equipment for the perfect prune job, as well as hands-on activities in the demonstration garden.
