WASHINGTON D.C. – The International City/County Management Association (ICMA) is pleased to announce that the County of Alachua is being recognized for superior performance management efforts with a Certificate of Excellence from the ICMA Center for Performance Measurement™ (CPM).  Alachua County is among 28 jurisdictions receiving the honor this year.

“The certificate program is one of the pillars of CPM,” says Michael Lawson, director of CPM.

“Through our certificate program, local governments are recognized for their exceptional commitment to continuous learning and improvement.  The criteria on which the certificates are based serve as a checklist of effective, results-oriented management practices.”

The certificate program assesses a local government’s performance management program and encourages analysis of results by comparing to peers and gauging performance over time.  Performance management aids in cost reduction, program prioritization, and quality improvement.  It also encourages accountability and transparency.

Criteria for the Certificate of Excellence include:

·         Reporting of performance data to the public through budgets, newsletters, and/or

information provided to elected officials

·         Data verification efforts to ensure data reliability

·         Staff training

·         Use of performance data in strategic planning and operational decision making

·         Sharing of performance measurement knowledge with other local governments through

presentations and other networking

·         Commitment to tracking and reporting to the public key outcomes

·         Surveying of the both residents and local government employees

·         Effective and timely reporting

“We concentrate in being accountable and maintaining systems indicative of a high performance organization,” said Randall Reid, Alachua County Manager,  “To receive a Certificate of Excellence from ICMA in this era of diminishing revenues and staff sources is simply a wonderfully satisfying management achievement.  This reflects well on us as a very creditable public organization in the best competitive light.  We achieve excellent ratings through the extra effort and long days that many employees put into their jobs daily.”
