Building a Sustainable Future Workshop

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Alachua County invites the public to a workshop entitled, "Building a Sustainable Future: Energy and Water Efficiency in the Built Environment." The workshop is on July 28, 2011, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Division of Forestry’s Wacasassa Forestry Center District Office (5353 NE 39th Avenue, Gainesville). Registration is required and limited to 50 participants. The deadline for registration is July 25th, and lunch is included.

The purpose of the workshop is to highlight some of the policies and programs available for use by builders and developers that help foster the development of a more sustainable community in Alachua County. Representatives from multiple Alachua County Departments including Environmental Protection, Growth Management, and Public Works, as well as staff from the St. Johns River Water Management District will be presenting information on energy and water efficient construction, low impact development techniques, and recycling of building materials. A panel discussion will be held following the presentations.
