The focus of the Healthy Baby Home Visit Program is to arrange visits by a registered nurse to assess the physical, social, and emotional health of mothers and babies. They will also provide guidance on issues such as family bonding, breastfeeding, healthy sleeping habits, infant safety (car seats, pool safety, etc.), and infant growth and development. A key component of this visit will be the early identification of needs and referrals for appropriate services. This program will be available to every new mother in Alachua County if she chooses to participate.

The Alachua County Commission created the Children's Services Advisory Board (CSAB) with the overarching goal to assure all Alachua County children are ready to enter kindergarten – this program advances this mission. The Commission appropriated $1.2 million to fund programs directed at early childhood development with an emphasis on children, prenatal to age five, and their families.
