Corporal Duane E. Dewey Place Road Renaming Ceremony

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Alachua County is renaming S.E. 174th Place as Corporal Duane E. Dewey Place. The community is invited to the Renaming Ceremony on Friday, February 10, 2017, at 10 a.m. The ceremony is on the corner of S.E. 174th Place and County Road 325.

Corporal Dewey was issued the Medal of Honor by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1953. The Medal of Honor is the United States of America’s highest military honor, awarded for personal acts of valor above and beyond the call of duty. S.E. 174th Place in Cross Creek is the road that Corporal Dewey has lived on for the past 30 years.

Alachua County Manager Lee A. Niblock will be the Master of Ceremonies, and the event includes: 

  • Presentation of Colors with Sergeant at Arms Terry Fitzpatrick, Korean War Veterans of America
  • Pledge of Allegiance
  • National Anthem sung by Alachua County Assistant County Manager Carl Smart
  • Posting of Colors with Sergeant at Arms Terry Fitzpatrick, Korean War Veterans of America
  • Speakers include County Manager Lee A. Niblock, Alachua County Commission Chair Ken Cornell, and Alachua County Veteran Services Director Kim Smith
  • Road Sign Reveal
