School Board and Health Department Celebrate Every Kid Healthy Week

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL – On Wednesday April 22, 2015, the School Board of Alachua County (SBAC), SBAC Food & Nutrition Services (FNS) and the Florida Department of Health in Alachua County (FDOH-Alachua) will celebrate “Every Kid Healthy Week.” This event will be held from 7 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. at W.W. Irby Elementary School (13505 N.W. 140th St., Alachua).

“The health and wellness of students has a direct impact on student performance,” stated Dr. Owen Roberts, Superintendent of Alachua County Schools. “We are pleased to partner with the Alachua County Health Department in promoting healthy activities.”

“The Alachua County Health Department values its relationship with the School Board of Alachua County and considers healthiest weight activities as a priority in ensuring students are exposed to healthy habits that will last a lifetime,” stated Paul Myers, Administrator of the FDOH-Alachua.

The event is for students and parents of students attending W.W. Irby Elementary School, and will include a morning walking program for participants followed by a healthy breakfast provided by FNS. The FNS Farm to School program will be offering fresh fruit from local farmers (Valencia oranges from Henderson & Daughter and strawberries from Frog Song Organics) for a taste testing with the participants.
