ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Drivers with overdue traffic tickets can get a break on collection agency fees, thanks to “Operation Green Light.” This one day event  sponsored by the Florida Clerks of Court takes place on Saturday, April 18, 2015, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Operation Green Light allows overdue traffic ticket violators to pay court costs, fines, and fees without having to also pay the additional collection agency fees. These fees could be as high as 40 percent.

Alachua County Clerk of Court, J. K. “Buddy” Irby said, “Clerks are trying to assist the thousands of people in Florida who are driving with overdue traffic tickets.” He continued, “If they are stopped for another traffic infraction their situation will get much worse and could even mean time in jail. We don’t want that to happen.”

Late fees and interest will not be waived, but statutory collections surcharges will. For example, someone paying an average $164 traffic ticket would not have to pay the additional $65.60 collection surcharge. Fines must be paid in full by cash, money order, or credit card. Checks are not accepted. Paying off fines also clears the way for violators to reinstate their suspended driver’s licenses after all fines and court costs are paid in full.

In Alachua County, Irby’s office sent a notice to every person who would benefit from this program. They are to contact Pioneer Credit Recovery at 877-492-9955 or visit the Pioneer Credit Recovery website.

Those interested in checking to find out whether their license is suspended should check their status at the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles website.
