February Environmental Horticulture Programs

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Environmental Horticulture Programs for February, 2015. These programs are being offered by Wendy Wilber, Environmental Horticulture Agent, at the UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office (2800 NE 39th Avenue, Gainesville) unless otherwise indicated.

Rain Barrel Workshop – February 7, from 10 a.m. to noon, at Mentone Subdivision Soccer Field (located in SW Gainesville, 5 miles West of I-75 on Archer Road)

This class covers how to build and use a rain barrel to gather water for gardens.

Cost is $50.00 if participants would like to purchase a rain barrel.

Raised Bed Vegetable Gardening – February 10, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

This class explains what crops to grow in the spring garden, and shows efficient techniques for growing vegetables in raised beds.

Vegetable Gardening & Grow Great Potatoes – February 19, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

This class covers vegetable gardening basics and growing potatoes (includes soil preparation, and variety selection). Harvesting and curing potatoes will also be covered.

Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ - Getting Ready for Spring – February 24, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Tower Road Library Branch (3020 SW 75th Street, Gainesville)

This class focuses on growing the right plants in the right place, watering efficiently, and fertilizer use.

Raised Bed Gardening & Herbs – February 25, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

This class explains what crops to grow in the spring garden and shows efficient techniques for growing vegetables in raised beds. Traditional & exotic herbs will also be covered.

There is no cost to attend these classes (unless otherwise indicated), but space is limited. Pre-register at least 3 days prior to class by calling 352-337-6209 (voice mail).
