Tropical Storm Hermine Update 09-02-16 9:45 a.m.

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The Special Needs Shelter located at the Gainesville/Alachua County Senior Center (5701 N.W. 34th Blvd, Gainesville) remains open. This shelter is for those with special needs, such as oxygen dependency and electricity dependency (to power life-sustaining machines). Those in need of transportation assistance, please call 352-955-2577. If possible, please call this number prior to going to to be certain this shelter can adequately meet your needs.

The general population shelters at the Easton Newberry Sports Complex and Eastside High School are closed.

For those without power, who are concerned about medications:

  • Medications that require refrigeration should be put on ice and kept in cooler
  • If ice and coolers are not available, keep refrigerators closed
  • Most Insulins do not require refrigeration

If you see downed trees on a public road or right-of-way, call 352-955-1818 to report the situation. The appropriate agency will be informed and crews will be dispatched when available.
