Hermine Upgraded to Hurricane and RTS Transportation Update 09-01-16 4:15 p.m.

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL – Tropical Storm Hermine has been upgraded to a Category 1 Hurricane. The storm now has sustained winds of 75 mph.

Hurricane Hermine continues to strengthen in the Gulf of Mexico. Wind speeds are expected to increase until the storm makes landfall. Alachua County is expected to experience sustained tropical storm force winds with possible isolated tornadoes.

People without transportation may use RTS services to reach the shelter located at Eastside High School (1201 SE 43rd St, Gainesville). Routes 7 and 711 travel to the shelter from the RTS Rosa Parks Downtown Station. For those unsure of connecting routes, please use the RTS Trip Planner. Please note that RTS service will be suspended when winds reach a steady 35 miles per hour. Service will resume once winds calm.

Residents are also encouraged to stay informed about major storm conditions by following Alachua County on Facebook and Twitter, and subscribing to the County’s press releases.
