ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - On Thursday, May 12, 2016, Alachua County Fire Rescue and the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with Buchholz High School, are conducting a simulated drunk driving traffic collision exercise called “Operation Shattered Dreams.” The exercise is conducted in preparation for prom night. The collision will be staged on the football field next to Buchholz High School (5510 N.W. 27th Ave, Gainesville), and begins at approximately 10:30 a.m. The mock collision exercise will take place for approximately one hour.

Operation Shattered Dreams demonstrates to high school students the impact drinking and driving has on families and the community. The demonstration involves an impaired teenage driver and will result in the injury of several students, and a fatality. The event includes emergency responses from Alachua County Fire Rescue and the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, just as an actual collision would require.
