Monday, November 30, 2015 4:30 PM

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The Alachua County Community Support Services Department is hosting a stakeholder event regarding the creation of an Alachua County Children’s Services Council. The meeting is on Friday, December 11, 2015, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in the John Henry Thomas Auditorium at the Alachua County Health Department/Community Support Services Building (218 S.E. 24th Street, Gainesville).

This event is designed to obtain input on the formal organization of the Children Services Council including its prospective membership and future direction. Attendees will learn more about the council and have a voice in its creation.

On October 27, 2015, the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners expressed its intent to form a Children Services Council with a focus on early childhood development. More specifically, the Board wants to initially create the Council as an advisory board, envisioning in the near future it will transition into an Independent Children Services Council (ICSC), which will require a voter approved referendum.
