Children's Book Drive Results

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - As part of President Obama's "United We Serve" summer initiative, the Alachua County Division of Senior Services (Foster Grandparent Program and Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) participated with the United Way of North Central Florida in a children's book drive to benefit participants in the Success by Six initiative. From July 25 through August 8, 2009, books were collected at Books-a-Million, North Florida Regional Medical Center, Alachua County Communications Office, Visitor's Center, Equal Opportunity Division, and Exactech, Inc. The 533 books and eight book storage crates collected through this effort will be used to create home libraries for children ages birth to six as well as distributed to selected child care centers in Gainesville�s 32609 zip code area.
