In Memory of Senator Edward M. Kennedy

This release has been sent at the request of the Office of the Governor, Charlie Crist.

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The President of the United States today issued a Proclamation directing that the flag of the United States be displayed at half-staff at the White House and on all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset August 30, 2009 in memory of Senator Edward M. Kennedy who died August 25, 2009. He also directs that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff until sunset on the day of Senator Kennedy's interment.  The President further directs that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same periods at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.

The Governor, in accordance with the Proclamation issued by the President has asked that all state and local governments also lower their U.S. and state flags.
