The Great American Cleanup

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The Great American Clean Up is this Saturday, April 11, 2009, beginning at 8 a.m.  Alachua County Public Works' Waste Watcher and his Team will be participating, along with Keep Alachua County Beautiful.

"Come out and be a part of this national effort to Keep America Beautiful." said Jeff Klugh, Alachua County Waste Alternative Specialist. "Clean up your neighborhood, plant a tree or flowers, paint a fence, or join others in a community project."

Supplies can be picked up at Westside Park (1001 NW 34th Street, Gainesville) or the Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Center (1028 NE 14th Street, Gainesville) starting at 8 a.m.

There will also be an environmental fair and thank-you party at the MLK center from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. for cleanup participants. The party will feature an environmental fair with games and information for everyone, and a special appearance by The Waste Watcher. 

For more information, contact Keep Alachua County Beautiful at 352-371-9444. Any cleanup projects completed from March 1 through May 31 will count towards the Great American Cleanup (so please report your cleanup activity).
