Health Dept. Administrator Named

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - At  a recent County Commission meeting, Ms. Jean Munden, R.N., M.P.H., M.P.A.  was congratulated by the Board for her appointment as the new Administrator of the Alachua County Health Department.

In speaking of the appointment Alachua County Commission Chairman Rodney J. Long said, "We are very pleased to have someone of Ms. Munden's experience on board and look forward to working with her on health issues important to the citizens of Alachua County."

"I am honored to have the opportunity to work with the Alachua County Health Department staff and community partners in fulfilling our mission to promote, protect and improve the health of the community," said Ms. Munden.

Ms. Munden has been working in public health for over 35 years.  She has been employed by the Alachua County Health Department since 1971 where she began employment as a public health nurse.  She has since been promoted to Nursing Supervisor, Assistant Nursing Director, Director of Nursing, and most currently, Assistant Director; a position she has held for nine years.

Ms. Munden has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing obtained from The University of Mississippi, a Masters in Public Administration from Nova University, and a Masters in Public Health from The University of South Florida.  She is active with community organizations such as the Alachua County Heart Association, Alachua County Head Start Advisory Committee, and Healthy Start.  She is also an active member of the American Public Health Association.
