ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Alachua County Victim Services and Rape Crisis Center and the Gainesville Commission on the Status of Women invite survivors of sexual assault to contribute original artwork to the Survivors of Sexual Assault Art Exhibit.

The exhibit will be held at the Civic Media Center (433 S Main Street, Gainesville) and Wild Iris Books (22 SE 5th Ave, Ste. D, Gainesville) from Friday, April 25, 2014, to Monday, April 28, 2014. A Reception for the Artists will be held on Friday, April 25, beginning at 7 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public.

All sexual assault survivors are welcome to submit original work. Works of all types are currently being accepted, including performance pieces to be presented at the reception.

“Art can be such an integral part of the healing process for survivors,” said Alachua County Victim Advocate Counselor Ashley Flattery. “By hosting this exhibition and displaying their work, we’re hoping to help celebrate the journey they go through from victim to survivor.”
