Take Back the Night Event

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The Alachua County Victim Services and Rape Crisis Center, the University of Florida Police Department’s (UFPD) Office of Victim Services, the University of Florida’s (UF) Gatorwell, and the UF Sexual Trauma/Interpersonal Violence Education team (STRIVE) are hosting “Take Back the Night.” The event includes a march and rally to end sexual violence on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at 5:30 p.m., with the march beginning at 6 p.m., beginning at Turlington Plaza (UF Campus, 2014 Turlington Hall, Gainesville) and ending at the Reitz Union Colonnade (UF Campus, Building 686 Museum Road, Gainesville).

Paint, posters, and support will be available to attendees. An open mic portion will conclude the event. Survivors and supporters are encouraged to speak out.

"Take Back the Night’s supporters have always understood the power of speaking out." said Alachua County Victim Advocate, Ashley Cortez. She continued, "Rape, sexual assault, sexual abuse and intimate partner violence are often labeled 'crimes of silence' because of the low reporting rates, stigma associated with victimization and social discomfort."
