ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Alachua County Environmental Protection Director Chris Bird has been elected Chair of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Local Government Environmental Professionals (NALGEP).

NALGEP is a national association representing local government professionals responsible for implementing environmental policy and environmental compliance.  NALGEP assists local governments by sharing best environmental practices, providing advice on environmental policy matters, and technical assistance  through workshops, webcasts, and national summits.

NALGEP’s Brownfield Communities Network is an award winning national network of local communities working to promote job creation, revitalization, and redevelopment  on brownfield properties.

“I look forward to serving in this leadership role at the national level” said Chris Bird.  “NALGEP is an amazing network for local government environmental and redevelopment professionals to share best practices.  Local officials are grappling with decreasing resources  to deal with increasingly complex environmental problems.  NALGEP’s work in brownfield property redevelopment provides a successful model for establishing effective private-public partnerships to better address other environmental challenges.”
