May Yarn Drive

Thursday, May 5, 2011 2:30 PM

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The Alachua County Extension Service and the Alachua County Association of Home and Community Education (HCE) members are collecting yarn for the High Springs Library Crafters Circle.

The members use the donated yarn to knit and crochet lap robes, shawls, bed socks, hats, military helmet liners, bibs, sweaters, booties and pillows. More than 1,000 items were donated in 2010 to Shands Pediatric Oncology, Haven HOSPICE, HOSPICE of the Nature Coast, military members in IRAQ and Afghanistan as well as needy people in County.

During the month of May, yarn donations can be dropped off at RBC Bank locations throughout Alachua County. Collection bins are set up for new donations or just unused remnants. There is no minimum amount for donations.

Gift cards to Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft Stores or Michael’s Stores are also welcome.

For more information, contact Brenda Williams at the Alachua County Extension Office 352-955-2402 or bjcw@ufl.edu.
