Project Save the Food

Monday, July 31, 2006 1:00 AM

ALACHUA COUNTY -- Help feed poor and hungry elders, children, parents and homeless individuals while keeping left over food out of the landfill!

From August 1 to August 14, volunteers from ElderCare of Alachua County along with area social service organizations, food banks, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, churches and County government will be collecting non-perishable and unopened food from students and other residents as they move from area apartment complexes and UF dormitories.  Quick, simple and easy!  Students and other residents of apartments managed by Trimark Properties, Paradigm Properties, and UF Housing will have the option of donating non-perishable, unopened food instead of throwing it all away.

Food collection boxes will be set up at selected apartment complexes and the UF Campus Housing office and selected dormitories beginning Tuesday, August 1, or food can be contributed directly to this project by delivering food to ElderCare, located at 4026 NW 22nd Dr., Gainesville.  For questions or additional information contact ElderCare at 352-265-0680, ext 42571.
