County Book Drive

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL – Alachua County is pleased to announce that its 2010 United Way Children’s Book Drive has resulted in the donation of 895 books by Alachua County Employees.  The books have been delivered to United Way.  The Book Drive was in support of the United Way Success by 6 program.  United Way is distributing the books to childcare centers and schools with pre-kindergarten classes.

Book Drive team leader Ivy Bell of the County’s Growth Management Department said, “The enthusiasm and support from my fellow County employees made this drive a resounding success.”

One of multiple efforts by the County’s United Way team lead by Marie Small of the County’s Partners for a Productive Community program, the drive involved placing bins in sixteen areas throughout County facilities.  Department team members used creative displays to encourage employee participation.  To view display pictures click links below:

 “I am always amazed at the efforts of County staff when it comes to these types of efforts,” County Manager Randall H. Reid remarked, “To assist in encouraging a young child to develop a love of reading is very special to all of us.”
