Strike Out Hunger Food Drive

Monday, October 25, 2010 11:50 AM

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Alachua County Commissioner Rodney J. Long is spearheading the annual "Strike Out Hunger" Food Drive to help fill the shelves of food pantries of local community agencies who in turn give to those citizens needing help. The food drive takes place on Monday, November 8, 2010, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Citizen Field parking area (on the corner of Waldo Road and 8th Avenue, in Gainesville).

Commissioner Long stated, "The downturn in the economy has hit many of our citizens hard and those that were teetering on the brink of disaster are in dire need. We are asking citizens throughout Alachua County to give to help others survive through these hard times.”

Alachua County has over 51,000 citizens living in poverty and 8,000 of those are children. Many of these families depend on our local pantries to help keep hunger from their door.
