The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Environmental and Community Horticulture Programs for March 2019. These programs are being offered by the Alachua County Master Gardeners, at the UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office (2800 N.E. 39th Avenue, Gainesville) unless otherwise indicated.
Rainwater: Save Every Drop – March 7, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Newberry Branch Library (110 S. Seaboard Drive, Newberry). Conducted by Ann Hudson, Cindy Westbrook & Denise Weaver, Master Gardeners
Slowing the flow of rainwater from landscapes saves on irrigation and decreases polluted creeks and flooding. Participants can join the Alachua County Master Gardeners to learn the ways utilizing rainwater on a yard can be accomplished. The workshop teaches ideas from the simple to the complex such as rain barrels, dry creek beds, and rain gardens.
There is no registration fee, but participants must register by calling 352-337-6209 (voicemail). The program is limited to 40 participants.

Growing Tomatoes in Alachua County – March 11, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Conducted by Brenda Campbell, Master Gardener
Tomatoes can be grown successfully by many methods of culture including in baskets, in solution, on stakes, on the ground, mulched, unmulched, or in a greenhouse. This class includes basics of how to grow tomatoes in Florida’s challenging environment including selection, managing pests, diseases, and disorders.
Participants must register online. The registration fee is $10 and includes course material and supplies. The registration deadline is March 8. This program is limited to 45 participants. There are no refunds for registration fees.
