POW/MIA Never Forget Ceremony

Alachua County Veteran Services, Rolling Thunder Florida’s Chapter 3, and the Department of Veterans Affairs are having a “Never Forget” ceremony on September 22, 2018, starting at 10 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Park (7430 S.W. 41st Place, Gainesville) to honor the service members who were Prisoners of War (POW) or Missing in Action (MIA).

National POW/MIA Day is usually observed across that nation on the third Friday of September. To include our citizens who are unable to leave work for this day, this event is being held on Saturday, September 22nd. Following the Ceremony, there is a commemorative motorcycle ride to the American Legion Post 16 (4701 N.W. 6th Street, Gainesville) where a luncheon will be held to benefit Rolling Thunder Inc. Tickets for the luncheon are $15.00 each. Proceeds support programs that bring awareness to POWs and MIAs.

Alachua County Veteran Services Director Kim Davis said, “All are welcome to join us as we take this time to honor the American service members who served our nation while in captivity by the enemy and the over 83,000 American service members who are still unaccounted for.”
