January Commercial Horticulture Programs

The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Commercial Horticulture Programs for January 2018. These programs are being offered by Dr. Tatiana Sanchez, Commercial Horticulture Agent.

Beginner Beekeeping – January 27, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the UF Entomology & Nematology Department (1881 Natural Area Dr., Gainesville)

This class is designed for beginner and intermediate beekeepers. This is the first of a series of workshops that will help participants manage the needs of their hive throughout the year. Participants’ clothes may absorb the smell from a planned smoker demonstration.

Pre-registration is required. The cost is $15.00 (includes class materials and lunch). Participants must register online. There are no refunds for registration costs.

Hydroponic Vegetable Nutrient Management – January 31, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the UF/IFAS Suwannee Valley Agricultural Center (8202 CR 417, Live Oak)

This program will feature classroom and lab activities designed to help hydroponic vegetable growers to manage their crop nutrients.

The topics and activities to be covered include plant nutrient basics, water quality and media selections, how to mix your own fertilizer, understanding the role of pH in your water, monitoring and adjusting nutrient solutions, how injectors work, hands-on lab sessions, and equipment and meters.

Pre-registration is required. The cost is $85.00 with a $5.67 fee (includes lunch, refreshments, and class materials). Participants must register online (includes class materials and lunch). There are no refunds for registration costs.
