County Staff Honored at Veterans Awards Banquet

Kim Davis awardAlachua County Veteran Services was honored at the recent Veterans Memorial Committee annual Veterans Awards Banquet. Army Veteran, Senior Office Assistant, and American Legion District 4 Commander Cherie Korn, and Navy Veteran and Veteran Services Director Kim Davis were both nominated for awards by local Veterans Organizations in Alachua County.

Four prestigious awards are bestowed on area Veterans annually in honor of the late Jim McCawley for their contributions to the Veteran Community. Nominees for awards are voted on by the Veteran Services Advisory Board, which is made up of representatives from area Veteran organizations and Veterans from varying military service eras. The honor of “Veteran Family of the Year” went to the Torres-Pintos Family, and was received by Retired IEF/OIF Marine Corps Veteran Sandra Torres-Pintos. The honor of “Veteran Supporter of the Year” went to Vietnam Army Veteran Fred Judkins, and the honor of “VA Employee of the Year” went to Clay Pardue with the VA Medical Center. The highest honor of “Veteran of the Year” went to Kim Davis.

Kim Davis served in the United States Navy and the Florida Army National Guard during the Gulf War. For the last 19 years, Kim has been serving Veterans in various roles, and during the last five years, she has been serving the Veterans of Alachua County as Director of Alachua County Veteran Services. Her hard work and dedication have not gone unnoticed by the Veterans Community. She has continuously developed a team of outstanding Veteran Service Officers and staff who work diligently to assist the Veterans of Alachua County. On top of her division’s excellent performance in serving the Veterans Community, Kim plans and implements multiple patriotic events and ensures area Veterans are remembered through her support of Veteran organizations. Kim is the North East Area Vice President of the County Veteran Service Officer Association of Florida placing Alachua County in a leadership role in services provided to Veterans. Alachua County is proud of the work and dedication of its Veteran’s Program and the dedication and hard work of the Director, Kim Davis.
