Fee Waived Adoptions Available this Saturday

Alachua County Animal Services dog kennels are currently full. They are encouraging adoptions and making room for incoming animals by waiving adoption fees this Saturday, May 12, 2018.

“We are heading into our peak intake months of June, July, and August, but we are already over capacity,” said Alachua County Animal Services Shelter Supervisor Jane Grantman. “We need to find homes for dogs to make space for more dogs in need in our community.”

Animal Services encourages the community to follow them on Facebook. Throughout May, they are sharing profiles of animals and the reasons they ended up at the shelter. Animals at the shelter are rarely there due to any fault of their own. They may have been stray, surrendered due to allergies, abandoned in apartments, or confiscated from neglectful owners.

Pet adopters must be 18 or older and show identification with proof of current address. If there are already pets in the home, the potential adopter must show proof that owned animals are current on rabies and license. All dogs and cats available for adoption are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and microchipped before leaving Animal Services.
