Alachua County Healthy Communities Initiative builds awareness of health related issues.

Our goal is to improve health status and reduce mortality and morbidity among Alachua County’s population through prevention and reduction of obesity among youth.

Objective 1: Develop a community partnership consisting of County and City governments, Alachua County School Board, CHD, UF, non governmental agencies and other partners

Objective 2: Develop baseline parameters, project outcome objectives and monitoring plan

Objective 3: Make recommendations for adoption of policies promoting activity and good food choices

Objective 4: Establish priorities and recommendations for improving utilization of current resources and implementing new programs promoting healthy weight among children

Healthy Schools in Healthy Communities Subcommittee

Goal: Target the 32609 zip code schools to improve wellness and move towards a healthier life style.

 

Healthy Communities Youth Subcommittee

Committee Chair:Vivan Filer

Committee Member: Kathryn Parker, Kim Gokhale, Sally Willams, Zephrine Augustine

Goal: Obtain input from youth relevant for Objective Two-Identify risk factors contributing to obesity especially to populations at risk.

 

Policy Subcommittee

Goal: The committee goal is to identify and work with local food establishments in assisting their customers to make better choices when dining out.
