Emergency Management's mission is t
o provide the resources to the community to develop a Culture of Preparedness against natural, human caused and technological hazards through education, training, and partnering programs.Alachua County Emergency Management is a value driven organization committed to the development and sustainment of a Disaster Resilient Community through an all hazards, risk based program. Alachua County Emergency Management will establish an innovative and progressive Emergency Management program that will be a recognized leader in the State of Florida.

Background

Florida Statute Chapter 252 (Florida Emergency Management Act) requires Counties to:

*
establish and maintain…an emergency management agency that has jurisdiction over and serve an entire county

* develop a county emergency management plan and program that is coordinated and consistent with the state comprehensive emergency management plan and program.


Alachua County Emergency Management is a division of County Public Safety.
Emergency Management is responsible for the organization, administration, and operation of the emergency management activities, services, and programs within the county and serves as liaison to the division and other local emergency management agencies and organizations.

Emergency Management also serves as the liaison for and coordinator of municipalities' requests for state and federal assistance during post disaster emergency operations.

Florida Emergency Management Preparedness and Assistance Trust Fund (EMPA)

$ 105, 806.00

Federal Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG)

$ 72, 876.00

Additional funding for Emergency Management activities comes from State Homeland Security Grant Program funds,Citizen Corps Grants for Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and Fire Corps programs, as well as plan review fees collected from Health Care Facilities.  Emergency Management currently has four positions: Director, Assistant Director, Coordinator and Senior Staff Assistant.
